Video vs. Words

I will be the first to admit it but I do not like reading. If there is a Cliff Notes version of the book then that is what I will read to save time. If there is a movie around the book then the movie wins.  I think that has to do with the fact that men are visual when it comes to learning more than anything according to science.

One of the things in marketing is that potential customers need to see you, hear you, and know you in order to build trust in you and your company. Video is one of the best vehicles to make that happen quickly. Video allows a window to your business that draws the outsider into your business by the story you tell in the videos you produce.

The first place to start in producing a video for your company is your origin story video. It allows you to tell the world why you are doing what you are doing, how you brought your why to life in your business, and what you want each customer to take away from working with you. The experience from beginning to end is what builds your brand long-term.

The best way to create that video is simply to write down a list of bullet points your want to talk about yourself why turn the camera on as you talk to each point. The best segments I have ever captured were letting people just talk unscripted. From there a good editor can create magic that is your origin story.

I suggest you get out your phone and start recording your own story. Be sure to watch each recording because each time you will want to do it better and in the end, it will be clear, concise, and capture the essence of who and what your company is all about.
